Robert Milton "Mitt" Dawson, Jr., born March 29, 1963 in Houston, Texas, passed away on September 16th, 2012, in Los Angeles. He was the oldest child of Robert and Zachie Dawson. In childhood he summered at the family bay house in Kemah, crabbing and fishing, and developed a passion for boats and water. He always took things apart to see how they worked. Years later, to the relief of his parents, he learned to put them back together again. He was a student of science, especially astronomy. He loved Star Trek, which bridged science and television, with its potential to change lives through the magic of storytelling. He had a sly sense of humor, and made everyone laugh, even in the worst of times. A favorite pastime was staying up late on Saturday nights, watching Monty Python's Flying Circus with his mother Zachie. He always remained a child at heart. At Memorial High School, he joined the chorale. He enjoyed singing as well as stage production work, like set building, where his mechanical knowhow served him well. He went to the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated in 1985 with a B.S. in Radio-Television-Film. At UT, he joined the Longhorn Singers, where his pleasing bass voice was put to great use. LHS formed a tightly-knit blanket of friendships, and always gave him comfort. Mitt moved to Hollywood to make game shows for Reg Grundy Productions, achieving his lifelong dream of making television. Hollywood was his true home. Mitt was patient, compassionate, and understanding. His friends knew if they confided in him, he would listen with empathy, offer help, and never pass judgement. He loved animals. His dog Digger was the best friend anyone ever had. Mitt was preceded in death by his mother, Zachie. He is survived by his father, Bobby; sister, Lennice; brother, John; sister-in-law, Jennifer; nephews, David and Connor; and niece, Emma. He will not be forgotten. A memorial service will be held at 2pm Friday, November 9th, at the chapel of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston TX, 713-782-1710, with a reception following in the parlor
