Allan and I knew each other in school, but were not especially close coming up. However, not realizing who the other was we met again 12 years ago through a mutual friend and established a girls travel softball club together out of Marble Falls, TX with 3 age levels. Several months into coaching one of the teams together, we realized the connection. (If memory serves, I think it came up when just before a game, one of us mentioned going to miss a tournament a certain weekend because they would be in Houston attending a high school reunion and the other realized the coincidence. I don't remember who was who, but I can thank this group for the lightbulb moment.) Both of our respective youngest daughters played on the team and were the same age and grade. We coached together year round for 3 years, spent amny a weekend togehter traveling around country and made a lot of really good memories.

I have not seen, nor talked to Allan in a few years now, but I have heard frequent and regular updates through the girls and mutual friends and can say it always sounded like he was enjoying and making the most of his life. Allan's wife, Kim is a 1982 Memorial grad and is well known and well liked in the Hill Country. I'm sure this is really tough for her and the family.

RIP Allan Oppenheim. Thanks for the memories.
